Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 899 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/10/30 Category Politics Essay Level High school Topics: Propaganda Essay Did you like this example? American Propaganda in World War II sounded interesting. It sounded interesting because I was curious how propaganda could benefit the US in world war II. At the same time, I wanted to understand what propaganda was all about. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "American Propaganda In World War II" essay for you Create order When I think of propaganda, I think of hatred toward another country. What also comes to mind is comic books, magazines, newspapers, radio, posters, even television that would show propaganda. While discussing this topic with my Grandma over Christmas break, she especially remembered comic books and movies showing propaganda. When investigating the use of propaganda in world war II, I have come to believe that propaganda was mainly used to try and influence both neutral and enemy counties, basically, try and shape international oppinion. Propaganda impacted the America citizens during world war II because it encouraged American people to enlist in the military, assisted the war by mandating Americans to buy war bonds, persuaded the Americans to ration materials and impacted influential public opinion in neutral countries. Propaganda had a huge impact on Americans enlisting into the military, in fact, 16 million Americans enlisted in the military during that time. The U.S Government was able to use propaganda to get the American people to enlist in the military. Many people joined the military just because they saw the adds. Propaganda had the ability to show people how devistating another country could be and how the US needed to defeat the enemies. Therefore, the US needed to be involved to stop other countries that were trying to enforce their beliefs on the whole world. Some people consider propaganda as a weapon because it can be seen by the enemys country. Propaganda can defeat other countries in some ways. In other words, Propaganda was able to shape peoples opinions about the enemy. Political propaganda touched on mans sense of being a man. Propaganda also tried to show that a woman wanted to be a part of the military forces. The military played a huge role influenced by Propaganda during World War II. However, buying war bonds also helped the U.S conserve their resources and not run out of materials that they need. Having war bonds assisted the US by taking money out of circulation, so one could only use war bonds to get the supplies that one needed and one could only get a certain amount of war bonds. The number of war bonds one got was based on the size of one’s family. War bonds were used to buy materials, food and other supplies that one might need in one’s daily life. When using war bonds the US is basically saying theres a limited supply of a product that one can get in a month. There really was no way of getting more product unless somebody would give one an extra war bond. However the US government really never issued extra war bonds. Rationed materials and foods seemed to be the thing to do during world war II. With the many challenges the American people went through during this time, it was necessary to ration gas, food and clothing. Every person was affected by the war and all had to react and be proactive, Rationing was introduced to prevent public anger with the shortages and not have only the wealthy be able to purchase items. Propaganda was used by Government -sponsored ads and radio shows. Pamphlets were even dispersed asking Americans to comply. Propaganda was a highly effective tool to get a communication out to the American people. Each family was given â€Å"Red Stamps and Blue Stamps†. â€Å"Red Stamps† were to purchase meats, butter, fat and oils and at times cheese. The â€Å"Blue Stamp† was to purchase fruits that were canned or bottles. Also, juices, and dry beans, soups, processed food, baby food, and ketchup. Actual training sessions were developed for women to teach them how to shop wisely and prepare nutritious meals for their families. Propaganda played a role in assisting all citizens to comply. Influencing International opinion was very important during the World War II and propaganda was used as the United States weapon. Propaganda was seen as a forcible form of purposeful persuasion that was an attempt to influence the attitudes and emotions of the American citizens. The targeted audience was for a political or commercial purpose. Messages were controlled and meant to be one-sided messages. This information could be factual or non-factual. However, it was delivered via mass and direct media to persuade people to believe what is being portrayed. Propaganda had a huge impact on public opinion, it influenced and persuaded society. Propaganda was the key when attempting to grab the mass media and be used as a way to provide information to educate and inform the American society. In conclusion, I believe that propaganda has impacted the America citizens during world war II as many American people were encouraged to enlist in the military. Citizens also assisted the war by buying war bonds and worked hard to ration materials. The biggest impact I noticed was the influential public opinion in neutral countries and the hardcore persuasion of the American people. Propaganda was made to influence citizens that another country what is in the wrong. True or untrue propaganda was there to influence peoples opinions about other countries. in my opinion I feel like propaganda was one of the ways America won the war.

The, The Wife Of Bath s Fourth Husband - 1162 Words

In a time like the renaissance when people did not brush their teeth or practice even semi proper hygiene, how can we even begin to compare love to what it is today? Love throughout time is filled with imbalance yet the causes vary greatly. It could stem from overbearing partners and jealousy, financial turmoil, or infidelity. When we notice these imbalances in love, specifically marriages, we must look to see where love meets real life, and if the two are realistically compatible in this time period. In the Canterbury Tales, The wife of bath’s fourth husband had a mistress, his ease of conscience accompanying his infidelity suggests that he did not love her as much as she loved him. This imbalance of love within their relationship caused her to act in very irrational ways, â€Å" I say, I had in heart great anger that he had delight in any other† (Chaucer 481-482). Despite her proclaimed immense love for him, she was still able to be unhappy. As a result of her miser y, she became equally, physically abusive towards him. This begs the question of whether love was equivalent to what it is today. When one considers that the wife of bath married her husbands for their money rather than love, why should we care about whether or not they are actually in love? It is difficult to believe that when a person marries for money that they will experience the same emotions and feelings as a person who marries out of love. The Fabliaux exemplifies what happens to a marriage when there isShow MoreRelatedEssay about Analysis Of Wife Of Bath1163 Words   |  5 Pagesof the Wife of Bath. The wife of Bath is a tough woman with a mind of her own and she is not afraid to speak it. Distribution System Of Coca Cola Company

Question: Discuss about the Distribution System of Coca Cola Company. Answer: Introduction In the recent times, simply producing products is not enough, the marketers have to ensure the fact that the products are delivered to the right market at the right time to the right people at the right cost (Aylott and Brindle-Wood-Williams, 2007). So this emphasizes upon the importance of distribution channels in the modern day business operations. Thus taking into consideration the above aspects, the report emphasizes upon analyzing the products, the strategies and the practices of the Coca Cola Company that supplies its beverage bases and syrups to Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) which is one of the largest bottlers of non-alcoholic beverages in the Aiasa-Pacific region. It is one of the worlds five major coca-cola bottlers and is headquartered at North Sydeny, New South Wales, Australia (Coca-cola, 2014). The report tends to identify the gaps in the current offerings of the company and provide suggestions in the context of the opportunities. It also analyzes the distribution channel and marketing topics that include the vertical and horizontal integration. It has analyzed the problems faced by the company in delivering its products and has provided suggestions for improvements. It also incorporates the use of technology in the distribution channels and improvements to be made. The role of innovation in future growth of business has b een analyzed. The reports also incorporate the channel power and conflict and improvements made over the years, the SWOT analysis and competitor analysis. It also includes conclusion as a summary of the above findings. Products, Strategies and Practices of Coca Cola Coca-Cola was the only flagship brand that was sold by the Coca Cola Company for almost 70 years. However Since the year 1995, the company started expanding its offerings leading to the addition of a wide variety of beverage selections and portion sizes for the consumers. This reveals the companys commitment towards offering an assortment of beverages for everyday lifestyle, life occasion and life stage. Thus, at present the company offers500 beverage brands that are sold in more than 200 countries across the globe (Coca-cola, 2014). So it leads to more than 3500 beverages in different categories like low and no-calorie sparkling beverages, regular beverages, fruit drinks, fruit juices, bottled water, energy drinks, sports drink, ready to drink teas and coffee. The strategies that have been adopted by the company in order to market its presence in the market outpace the competitors can be illustrated as follows: Positioning Strategy Coca-Cola operates with the philosophy of think global, act local and thus even though the company keeps the same core product i.e. coke, it tries to adapt to the local needs. So it can be said the company uses strategic positioning to maintain its same image across the globe and this has been a great success since the brand is perceived by the consumers as a part of daily life everywhere in the world. This perception leads to high degree of loyalty and leads automatic purchase decisions. The brand is positioned as Live the coke side of life that exhibits that the company is dedicated to deliver joy and happiness (Yuvaraju, Subramanyam and Rao, 2014). Thus with the name of coke, the first thing that strikes the mind of the people is fun and entertainment. Strategies Positioning Strategy Live the coke side of life Differentiation Strategy Product differentiation and image differentiation strategies. Promotional Strategies price strategy trade promotion, sales promotion, purchase shelves in departmental stores to display their products (Wang, 2015) Distribution Strategies direct and indirect selling (Aylott and Brindle-Wood-Williams, 2007). Advertising Strategies Print Media TV commercial Holdings and billboards Social and digital media Competitive Strategies Marketing, innovation and globalization strategies Best Practices adopted by Coca-Cola Customer research Identify the changing consumer tastes and preferences Testing To align the products with consumers wants Entrepreneurship To encourage innovation and introduce new products Consumer driven practices To make consumer feel valued (Benard, Oketch and Matu, 2015) Value based management To offer enhanced value to consumers through live positively approach Gaps in Current Offerings and Recommendations In the recent times, not only the aged consumers but also the young consumers have become more health conscious and thus are emphasizing upon consuming far less sugar. So this can be looked upon as a major concern for Coca-Cola Company since the consumers are switching to Red Bull and other energy drinks in order to get their caffeine boost (Pope, 2011). So it can be recommended that the Coca-Cola Company should introduce health drinks in its product portfolio in addition to diet coke. Moreover it can also complement its beverage business though offerings it consumers some of its own branded snack foods. Distribution Channel of Coca-Cola The Coca-Cola Company can be looked upon as a global business that operates on a local scale and this has been possible because of the Coca-Cola system that includes the company itself and its more 250 bottling partners across the globe. The Company produces and sells and the beverage bases, concentrates and the syrups to the bottling operators and they manufactures, packages and distribute the final beverages to the vending partners and customers who then again sell the products to the consumers (Coca-cola, 2014). The bottling partners work in close relation with the customers i.e. the restaurants, grocery stores, the convenience stores, amusement parks and the movie theatres so that localized strategies that have been developed in partnership with the company can be executed efficiently (wordpress, 2015). Thus the points of sales the products of Coca-Cola are cauterized into: Distributors or wholesalers Corner stores, super markets or retailers Cafes, night clubs and restaurants Petrol stations In the context of its operations in Australia, the Coca-Cola Amatil is the bottling partner pf the company and it is the largest bottling partners in the Asia-pacific region. The distribution system can be represented as follows: [Source: wordpress, 2015] The Distribution Strategy of Company can be represented as follows: [Source: Christopher, 2006] Thus the Company uses both direct and indirect selling. In case of direct selling the products are supplied in the shops through their own transport and in case of indirect selling, the company maintains whole sellers and agencies that cover different regions. Horizontal and Vertical Integration of Coca-Cola Vertical integration can be defined as a competitive strategy that is adopted by the firms in order to take complete control over one or more stages in the production or distribution of its products. It is generally adopted to take full control over the supply chain. On the other hand horizontal integration drives the firm towards the acquisition of a related business. Thus in the context of vertical integration, Coca-Cola Company tends to own and manage a large portion of its manufacturing. Around 20% of the products of the company is produced by Coca-Cola Enterprises and this is the largest percentage (The Coca-Cola Company, 2014). In the context of horizontal integration, the Coca-Cola Company tends to dominate the beverage market and this is done by buying out and owning various brands that provides an opportunity to the company to expand and branch out within the market. Thus from the above discussions it can be said that Coca-Cola Company is more horizontally integrated rather than vertically integrated. Issues in Delivering Products and Offerings and Suggestions Since the ingredients of Coca-Cola is a trade secret, the company delivers the syrups and beverage bases to the bottling plant of Australia and then the final products are sold to the customers. Thus it can be called as a franchising distribution method. So where this method of delivery proves to be beneficial for the company in terms of no transportation fee, it also suffers from certain specific issues. The issues include lack of internal communication, high cost involved in internal distribution process and customer loyalty problems (wordpress, 2015). Suggestions It is suggested that the company should strive towards establishing a sophisticated distribution system that should include key functions like inventory management, orders for shipment, order status, account selection, electronic map and customer management. This would facilitate the company to identify and design the shortest route to deliver the products. The system should also be characterized with the real time update functions which would enhance its control and communication. In order to enhance the loyalty of the customers, the company should adopt intensive distribution strategy i.e. retail stores should be set by the company at some dense populated areas, leisure centre, convenience stores and shopping center. Moreover the company should also adopt the pull strategy for the promotion of their products. The company can accredit the retail stores by offering discounts and providing them free samples and loyalty points. The company can also use red billboards in the retail stores and supermarket stores which would appear attractive for the consumers which would stimulate the purchase activities. So the pull strategy would be beneficial in enhancing the customer relationship and loyalty. Use of technology in Distribution Channel The beverage companies like Coca-Cola want their distributors to add product to their portfolio while keeping the costs neutral or achieving reduced operating costs. So in this context, the company makes an effective use of storage technology that enhances the useful life of warehouses at minimal cost. The storage technologies used include the double deep racking, keg flow racking and mobile racking and these technologies facilitates in efficiently handling the fast growing inventories (Landi, 2015). Again it is also suggested that the company can use automated case handling system since it would facilitate the distributors in increasing and managing warehouse throughput and thus enhance order accuracy. The company can also use technologies like SmartTrak since it would enhance its visibilityin the industry pool (Landi, 2015). The company can easily view where the demand is and then move the inventory at the right time and at the right place and this would facilitate in enhancing the efficiency of the supply chain. Role of Innovation in Growth Innovation at present can be looked upon as a magic key to unlock the great competitive advantage and disrupting the entire market. In this context, Coca-Cola is observed to be leading the beverage industry. Coca-Cola even though being 129 year old mega corporation characterized with 500 brands, always strive for ways in which innovation can be achieved in all sphere of its operation and identifying ways to do things in a different manner (Demirel and Mazzucato, 2012). This can be illustrated with the examples like the eco-friendly beverage containers that are made of ice and these containers simply melt ways after use, the smart vending machines that facilitate the customers to mix and match the flavors (Communications, 2016). On the other hand the innovation has facilitated the company to come up with different brands and products that liked by the consumers and has stimulated the growth of the company. Channel Power and Conflict Channel Power In this context it is observed that some channel members require others more than others require them and thus there arise different sources of power (Consumerpsychologist, 2016). For example, Coca Cola Company generally strives towards adopting reward power since it is capable of reinforcing the channel members performance. As for example, Coca-Cola can offer price break or pay additional fees for additional shelf space. Moreover if a retailer meets certain goals for example sale of 50,000 cases per month is offered a bonus. Channel Conflict It is the conflict between the channel members. As for example, Coca-Cola might be interested in increasing its sales by offering certain level of discount on its cans. The retailers on the other hand, might be aware of the fact that overall soda sales would not go up much if the coke is put on sale since the consumers who usually prefer other brands would switch to Coca-Cola due to the discounts being offered (Consumerpsychologist, 2016). So in such cases, the retailers tend to pocket the discounts offered by the company. Channel SWOT Analysis of Coca Cola Strengths Coca-Cola has its presence in 200 countries across the globe and this has contributed towards the development of a mammoth brand name (Hartogh, 2014). This has been possible due to its largest distribution network and its franchising distribution system that facilitates in carrying out its philosophy of think global, act local. Weaknesses The issues like lack of internal communication, high cost involved in internal distribution process and customer loyalty problems can be looked upon as weaknesses in the distribution channel of Coca-Cola Company. Opportunities The supply chain is looked upon as major cost sink hole characterized with rising transportation costs. Moreover the business of Coca-Cola is dependant mainly upon transportation and distribution (Hartogh, 2014). So the company can use technological advancements to reduce the operational costs. Threats Sourcing of the raw material i.e. water is the major threat. This is due to rising scarcity of water since sooner or later someone might raise finger on the beverage companies and thus if water is limited or rationed then the company would experience a major fall in capacity of distribution. Competitor analysis The competitor analysis of Coca-Cola Company can be illustrated with the help of the following figure: [Source: Hoovers, 2016] Conclusion Thus from the above discussions, it can be inferred that even though Coca- Cola faces tough competition in the market from competitors like PepsiCo and others, the company has been successful in maintaining its market positioning and is continuously growing mainly because of its efficient distribution system and innovations that it emphasizes upon to as per the changing tastes and preferences of the consumers. What Is a Random Variable free essay sample

We categorize these situations by defining a generic numerical outcome, or random variable. for similar random circumstances. Identifying the type of random variable ap ¬propriate in a given situation makes it easy to find probabilities and other infor ¬mation that would be difficult to derive from first principles. There are two different broad classes of random variables: 1. A continuous random variable can take any value in an interval or col ¬lection of intervals. 2. A discrete random variable can take one of a countable list of distinct values. Sometimes a random variable fits the technical definition of a dis ¬crete random variable but it is more convenient to treat it as a continuous random variable. Examples include Incomes, prices, and exam scores. Sometimes continuous random variables are rounded off to whole units, giving the appearance of a discrete random variable, such as age in years or pulse rate to the nearest beat. We can consider discrete and continuous random variables separately because probabilities are computed and used differently for them. For discrete random variables, we are interested in probabilities of exact outcomes or a series of them. For continuous random variables, we are Interested in the probability of the outcome falling into a specific Interval. For instance, suppose you are wait ¬ing to fly on standby and you have first priority. You would want to know the probability that the number of standby passengers who will be able to board the plane (a discrete random variable) is one or more. You might also want to know the probability that the flying time (a continuous random variable) will be no more than the time specified in the flight schedule. The probability that the flying time is exactly that amount would be essentially zero, and it doesnt make sense to talk about probabilities of exact values for continuous random variables. Remember that a discrete random variable is one that can only result in a countable set of possibilities. Although a discrete random variable often has a finite number of outcomes, that Is not always the case. Reference link: http://classof1. com/homework-help/engineering-homework-help

Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis Cystic FibrosisCystic Fibrosis is the second most common inherited disorder occurring in kids in the United States today. It is a life-long disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs and digestive system. More than 10 million Americans carry the defective Cystic Fibrosis gene without knowing (Gibbons). One in every twenty people is a carrier. The ethnic group that has the highest risk of inheriting Cystic Fibrosis is Caucasians, whereas Asian Americans have the lowest risk of developing the disorder. The symptoms of the disorder are never the same for everyone. They depend on the severity of the disorder, and can get increasingly worse over time. Doctors use many methods in order to diagnose Cystic Fibrosis, and there are many treatments and airway clearance techniques available to the patients. These treatments ease the symptoms of the disorder. Diagnosing and treating Cystic Fibrosis has improved rapidly over the years, and doctors have developed new treatments to help expand patient's lives.Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease that affects the cells in the epithelium that produce mucus, sweat, and digestive juices. Instead of the mucus, sweat and the digestive juices lining organs, they become thick and sticky and block passageways within the body. People who inherit Cystic Fibrosis get two faulty genes, one from their mother, and one from their father ("Cystic Fibrosis"). Mutations from the Cystic Fibrosis genes make a protein cystic fibrosis trans-membrane regulator, CFTR, which causes the chloride ions to function incorrectly. This disrupts the essential balance of salt and water needed to maintain a normal coating of mucus which affects the lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, sinuses, and sex organs. Almost 1,400 different mutations of the CF gene can lead to Cystic Fibrosis (Goldman). The most common inherited gene is Delta F508, which is...

Prostitution in Bangkok

Prostitution in Bangkok As far as prostitution in Bangkok is concerned, it has been estimated that here are about 200 European women and 500 Chinese women in the sex industry (Clark, 2005, p. 23). This has come to be referred to as the dark side of Thailand that people don’t know which portrays a narrow segment of life in Bangkok. In this case, it has been estimated that the sex industry as a whole generates more than 100 billion baht each year.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Prostitution in Bangkok specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This has always been as a result of various short term sex establishments that have sprung up as time goes by. As far as the industry as a whole is concerned, thousands of women are always sold to brothels in Bangkok by unscrupulous job brokers. Brothels have always operated in an organized international syndicate for their own sustainability when it comes to money issues. 40% of foreigners make up majori ty of prostitutes in different establishments in Bangkok (Clark, 2005, p. 55). The industry has different segmentations based on the amount of money that is involved in the business. It should be known that a large number of women and children alike are always lured into the business from neighboring countries to Bangkok with the promise and expectation of good money. This implies that most of these prostitutes want to go to Bangkok for prostitution because of the thriving industry in the country which might not be the case in their own countries (Seabrook, 1996, p. 35). Thai women always move to other roles in the sex industry which therefore requires replacement that is always done by trafficking in other foreign women who are estimated at more than 10,000 every year. As much as fewer Thai women have entered the sex industry in recent years, there has been a large influx of women from Burma and Southern China into the country for prostitution (Murcott, 1991, p. 62). Most prostitut es in Bangkok have entered the country illegally which shows that there are thousands of foreign women in the sex industry. Prostitution culture and public opinions It should be known that prostitution is one of the areas where issues of people’s private life are always subjected to public opinion as far as cultural history is concerned. This means that there are several underlying factors that have been behind the prostitution culture in Thailand and more specifically Bangkok.Advertising Looking for essay on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The practice of prostitution is illegal but it has been practiced throughout the country which raises various integrity issues (Cleo, 1994, p. 9). The fact that prostitution is illegal in the country has made it difficult for various stakeholders to estimate the exact number of women and children who are involved in the sex industry. On the other hand, just like in other countries, people’s views about prostitution in Thailand have always been influenced by cultural changes that have emerged with modernity (Hanna, 2004, p. 89). Visiting a prostitute or a mistress in Thailand is common but it doesn’t mean that it is acceptable behavior. This is a held public opinion that has been ignored by different people who are involved in the sex industry. The society has a lot of tolerance to the downtrodden which has ended up shaping perceptions and attitudes towards prostitution. It should be known that the attitude of different Thai girls towards prostitution is shaped by the society’s cultural norm. The acceptance of tolerating people who are downtrodden has enabled prostitution to flourish without any social stigma that is found in other countries and societies (Peracca, 2005, p. 16). Social stigma towards prostitution in Thailand has not taken root because prostitutes provide assistance to their families and relatives. This has therefore tilted public opinion in their favor as time goes by thereby creating a new culture where although prostitution is illegal, it is wholly embraced by the society (McCamish, 2002. p. 40). The political power has not been able to create some national subjectivity that is desired to make a firm national position or opinion about prostitution and the sex industry in Thailand. Thailand’s modernization has been greatly influenced by many cultures that relate to western capitalism thereby playing a big role in shaping peoples opinion on the issue of prostitution. As far as culture is concerned, prostitution in Thailand is illegal but it is tolerated and partly regulated in practice (Bales, 1999, p. 19). This means that the country is breeding a culture of child prostitution based on different and diverse aspects that are supposed to be evaluated if public opinion is expected to shift in the near future.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Pros titution in Bangkok specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Gambling culture in Thailand It should be known that Thailand, at least at a faà §ade level, is not a gambling state as many people might assume it to be. This means that the state does not in any way permit casinos and sports books although official lottery is allowed. There are certain underlying factors that will always tempt people into gambling in different societies which are expected depending on the motive. As far as the culture in the country is concerned, there are other officially endorsed activities apart from gambling. On the other hand, as much as it is illegal, it is widely popular in the country just like any other place. Illegality in gambling in Thailand means that there is more discretion that is involved (Rich, 2007, p. 20). There has been an argument that the Thai government should legalize some forms of gambling from different quarters of the country but these needs proper review for long term sustainability. Just like prostitution, gambling is illegal but there are other people who have continued with the practice without fear. As far as this issue is concerned, it is quite obvious that gambling has some economic and social impacts whether it is legal or illegal. There are some small exceptions that allow people to gamble in one way or the other. This therefore brings us to the aspect of the effects of gambling to the society and individuals. Legalized and illegal gambling will always have some effects on the society in the country in one way or the other. There are many illegal gambling spots in the country known as Siam. This can be explained from the fact that many foreign nationals have always come in the country to engage in these illegal gambling. This means that the practice is acceptable amongst the citizens as an economic activity that can give them money (Kausch, 2003, p. 37). People get addicted to gambling because of the monetary r eturns that are associated with it. This means that as long as somebody is getting money from gambling, she or he will continue doing it in the long term. In the process, this has often led to addiction to gambling with far reaching consequences. As time goes by, different cartels have emerged by to protect their interest as far as gambling is concerned.Advertising Looking for essay on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More It should be known that there are grave dangers for people who do not want to pay as far as gambling is concerned. People who get on the wrong side of gamblers have always paid with death which has led to a bad culture that is emerging in the country. The psychology of gambling There are different aspects of gambling that are supposed to be understood. In this case, it should be known that addiction to gambling can always ruin finances and family relationships in one way or the other. This means that there are different psychological aspects that are used by casinos to encourage people into gambling. In fact, it is as far as making a bet on the outcome of different events is concerned. Gambling is always considered an immoral activity because those people who engage in it might end up stealing or coming crimes to get the money. In the long run, it always leads to greater poverty because people want to continue playing and pay debts that they have incurred as a result of gambling (Ha gan, 2010, p. 27). Gambling has always been seen as a manifestation of greed by various people in the society. This is because despite the greed and laziness, there is a desire to get rich as time goes by without working hard or investing in anything. There is an exploitation of human frailty that is involved in gambling which explains why it has thrived illegally in Thailand and other countries. Gambling becomes a problem in the society when an individual cannot control what he or she is spending in the long run and short run. There is always a rush mentality to gambling although there is an addiction to some occasional pay offs. On the other hand, gambling can be fun when it becomes more than a game. In this case, people become addicted to gambling because of the thrill to win and the anticipation of winning. People who are addicted to gambling believe that it can help them in alleviating different and diverse problems that they might be facing in one way or the other. This means that such individuals are likely to spend considerable amounts of money to get whatever they want as far as gambling is concerned (Volberg, 2002, p. 103). Therefore compulsive gambling has been described as a disorder that affects various people in Thailand who engage in gambling illegally in one way or the other. Narcotics, how people get addicted There are various factors that have always led to addiction in one way or the other depending on the prevailing situation and circumstance. Using narcotics has never caused addiction in any way. People therefore become physiologically dependent on drugs as time goes by. In this case, it does occur that there is nobody who starts depending on drugs from the word go but rather it takes time (Rang, 2003, p. 44). This means that there is an addiction cycle that is followed by everybody before they become fully fledged addicts. The addiction cycle is the reoccurring process that takes place as people cope with addiction. In the first stage the re is always acting out where people engage in some behavior to relive stress (Roesner, 2006, p. 72). After acting out, there is always guilt and remorse due to sinning that the individual has engaged in. Shame and depression follows guilt and remorse because people feel badly about themselves based on what they have done. Shame and depression leads to recommitments as a result of the behavior that people engage in (Hillman, 2008, p. 60). Most notably, there is some recommitment to the same habit that an individual was feeling shame about. Performance follows recommitment which ultimately leads to stress that makes people and individuals to continue using the drug. Stress can be manifested in different ways but it is brought about by diverse and distinct aspects. Fear of failure, fear of rejection and expectations can always lead to stress which should be understood. People turn to the life of crime and prostitution to support addiction because such aspects are related in one way or the other. Addiction is very bad and an individual needs the drug to support his life which means that they can do anything to get the money that will get those drugs (Boob, 2007, p. 51). Many drug users will always turn to prostitution to support their habits because they never have any meaningful way of getting money. By engaging in prostitution they will be able to get money and thereby continue using drugs. On the other hand, people who cannot engage in prostitution will turn to crime to get money. In this case, addicts can only support their behavior by turning to prostitution and crime (Gass, 2008, p. 39). Lacking income to support an illegal habit is very bad which turns people to crime and prostitution. It should be known that pimps always use violence and drugs as a control mechanism in different ways. This is always a strategy of control over their activities should be understood for long term sustainability when it comes to understanding this issue. In this case, drugs a re a control mechanism that they have always used to support their activities when it comes to monopolizing. The most renowned form of control mechanism has always been violence but if this fails to work out, pimps have always resorted to drugs. Just like other drug dealers, pimps are also able to keep their business by using any means possible. All in all, it should be known that drug addiction, prostitution and crime are related in one way or the other meaning that they will always thrive together. Reference List Bales, K. (1999). Retail Loss Prevention Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Retail Loss Prevention - Assignment Example The 11.9% increase in eFencing from 49.2% in 2012 is a clear indication that ORC needs specialized attention. The loss resulting from ORC flows through the entire chain of distribution and the consumer becomes a victim too either by purchasing stolen products or by having to pay more money as a result of increased prices on commodities or services. Moreover, the criminals are becoming more aggressive harming those who happen to interdict them. While the article highlights partnerships and advocacy as well as federal legislations as the best methods of curbing ORC, I perceive increasing visibility on merchandise and employees involvement to be best ways of curbing the disgraceful act. The staff should be in a position to keep an eye on every stock as n uncomplicated and less costly way of preventing occurrence of ORC. Employees should also be fully exposed to the company’s policies regarding theft and stern warnings and possibly dismissal given to those caught participating in the practice (Greggo, Alan & Millie, 127). Noteworthy, Greggo, Alan, and Millie attribute the continual increase in ORC to the lessened interests to work, high unemployment and the need for individuals to uphold cozy lifestyles despite the prevailing economic hardships (p. 132). Securing credit card data has also become extremely and with the increased cyber crime, it will be challenging to handle ORC (Hedgie, N.p). The article by the National Retail Federation informs how important law enforcing agencies are in preventing retail losses. Hedgie Bartol. The Catcher and the Rye Essay Example for Free

The Catcher and the Rye Essay The Biographical Lens applied to The Catcher in the Rye J.D. Salinger expresses his view of society in his novel, The Catch in the Rye. His viewpoints are seen in the book through the eyes of young Holden Caulfield. This novel demonstrates modern-day dilemmas and complications that teenagers confront in life. Throughout this novel, Holden Caufield, the protagonist shows signs of clinical depression mourning over the death of his younger brother Allie which caused him to have a slight case of Tropophobia. There are many instances that sustain evidence against Holden Caufield’s depression which expose his continuous thoughts of suicide, his choice of withdrawal from society, and his incapability of viewing the beneficial aspects in life rather than the imperfect. Holden is convinced that society is full of â€Å"phonies† and nothing else, that all people have a side in which they should not be proud of, expect the younger generation, whom are completely innocent. Tropophobia, is a global issue where people who suffer from it have the fear of changes. Tropophobia is caused by severe trauma that is somehow linked to sudden changes. Holden has a slight case of this illness, caused by the death of his younger brother, Allie. This would explain the reason that Holden loves the Museum. Holden loves it because it never changes, it’s always the same and is always predictable. Holden Caufield demonstrates that he has continuous thoughts of suicide in the novel â€Å"The Catcher in the Rye†. Holden shows symptoms of depression by giving up when life confronts him with a problem. There are two examples that express’ Holden’s feelings towards death that are exhibited in this novel. A major conflict in this story is when Holden and his roommate get into a dispute. Holden mourns while looking out the window and says â€Å"I felt so lonesome, all of a sudden. I almost wished I was dead† (page 48, chapter 7). This displays Holden’s suicidal thoughts when faced with a setback. Another instance that express’ Holden’s suicidal thoughts are viewed during a conflict with Maurice (a pimp in the hotel). Holden Caufield is afflicted by Maurice and entertains the thought of ending his life. â€Å"What I really felt like, though, was committing suicide. I felt like jumping out the window.†(Page 104, chapter 14). As al ways, when problems arise, Holden seems incapable of resolving them and reasons the alternative of ending his life. This is revealed as a symptom of clinical depression. Holden Caufield also decides to withdraw himself from society. Holden makes this evident in multiple times throughout the novel. He chooses to outcast himself from his peers, family and from society. He demonstrates this aspect when he abruptly asks Sally to move to Massachusetts, â€Å" How would you like to get the hell out of here? What we could do is, tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont, and all around there, see.†(Page 132, chapter 17). Holden chooses to withdraw himself from his peers and family to live alone and start over in an unfamiliar place. He wants to forget about all he ever knew (New York) and start over; his way of escaping his depressed and lonely surrounding. He displays this aspect once again when he intends to escape out west and live in a cabin away from society. He makes the decision to isolate himself from everyone he knows: â€Å"What I’d do, I figured, I’d go down to the Holland Tunnel and bum a ride, and then id bum another one, and another one, and another one, and in a few days I’d be somewhere out West where it was sunny and where nobody’d know me and id get a job.†(Page 198, chapter 25) He wants to completely isolate himself and extract from others: â€Å"I thought what I’d do was, I’d pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn’t have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody.†(Page 198, chapter 25). He desires to extort himself from civilization. Holden caufield is incapable of recognizing the beneficial aspects in life rather than the imperfect. Holden doesn’t see the positive qualities in people and views the negative. He calls others (including his peers and family) â€Å"phonies†. There are many moments throughout the novel where Holden is judgmental regarding people he’s never encountered before. He claims that they’re deceiving and â€Å"phony† when he hardly knows them. For instance, before Holden Caufield encounters Sally’s friend at the play (â€Å"strictly ivy league†, page 127, chapter 17) he says â€Å"Then all of a sudden, she saw some jerk she knew on the other side of the lobby† (Page 127, chapter 17). Holden calls Sally’s friend a jerk before he even meets him, as he contemplates negative thoughts from the commencement of things. Additionally, Holden calls a considerate and thoughtful teacher by the name of Mr. Spencer, deceptive: â€Å"Even the couple of nice teachers on the faculty, they were phonies, too†¦There was this one old guy, Mr. Spencer.† (page 168, chapter 22) Mr. Spencer is extremely considerate and concerning towards Holden; when he invites him over to his house to say good-bye: â€Å"I’m trying to help you. I’m trying to help you, if I can.†(Page 14, chapter 2). He calls many things around him phony, these phony things are usually things he relates to adulthood. Not only does Holden fear adulthood himself, but he also wants to save others from becoming adults. As he explains about his dream job that Holden’s only place in life is to catch kids who fall from the rye. J.D. Salinger uses the term falling because falling into or towards something is usually used in a negative aspect. Holden is a depressed character; he reveals the negative traits of people fr om the beginning, instead of admiring the respectable qualities they have. J. D. Salinger uses symbolism in several occasions, he shows Holden’s curiosity about the ducks in the lagoon. Holden doesn’t understand how the ducks are so adequate with change while he fears it so much. The author also mentions the strangeness of Holden’s hat, this represents his uniqueness and how he doesn’t want to become like other people, like adults. The red hunting hat is also symbolic in the way that both Allie’s and Phoebe’s hair is red, this represents how Holden wants to be like them; the fact that they are both young and innocent attracts Holden to want to be like them. The protagonist in J.D Salinger’s novel â€Å"The Catcher in the Rye†, Holden Caufield is portrayed as a clinically depressed character. He is suicidal, constantly contemplating negative thoughts, and isolates himself from civilization. It is revealed that depression amongst youth is not easily overcome as is the grieving process of progressing after a significant loss in their life. Bibliography Salinger, J. D. Lead Toxicity in Children Essay -- Lead Poisoning Health Medical Essay

Lead Toxicity in Children Lead poisoning in children was first discovered in 1890 in Queensland, Australia. The lead source was not identified until 1904, when a researcher traced it to the paint used on railings and verandahs. The first discovery of lead poisoning in the United States (with a traceable source) was in 1914; the child had chewed the paint off of his crib. At this time they linked lead poisoning as a cause of convulsions in children. As research progressed and more children were found with high lead levels, symptoms caused by lead were expanded to include lead meningitis, acute encephalopathy, intellectual dullness, reduced consciousness, seizures, comas, and death (Chisholm, 1982). Lead is a metal found virtually everywhere even today. Sources of lead include auto body shops, electric storage batteries, glazes for china dishes, crockery, insecticides, electric cable insulation, hose, pipe, sheet and floor coverings. Lead is associated with stain glass work, jewelry making and antique ceramic doll painting. Although lead in paint was outlawed, there are still many homes that have lead paint (White et al, 1990). Lead found in gasoline was found in one study to account for 23--27% of the lead blood levels in the people tested (Wagner, 1991). This exposure to lead sources is more of a concern for children due to the characteristic habit of children to taste everything they touch; this characteristic is known as pica. Nazi consolidation of power in 1933 was primarily due to the use of terror and violence Essay

Certainly terror and violence can be said to have played an integral part in bringing about the Nazi’s consolidation of power, as violence was such an important part of Nazism and was never far from the surface. However there were also other factors such as legality, tactical alliances and the successful use of propaganda which in effect contributed a vast amount to the Nazi’s consolidation of power, the Nazis deployed propaganda effectively as a means of deceiving the political nation of their real intentions and significances of their actions, which ultimately led to their consolidation of power. Terror and violence were prominent factors in allowing the Nazis to consolidate power in 1933, for the reason that violence still had an impact on political developments, even the negotiations between Hitler, Von Papen and Hindenburg took place against the backdrop of well publicized acts of SA brutality. In May 1933 SA members stormed trade union headquarters and disbanded it. This violence led many leaders of the SPD to flee abroad and in June its party was officially banned and the 3000 that remained were arrested and a number were killed. This ultimately portrays the brutality of the Nazis, which effectively contributed to their consolidation of power. After the Reichstag fire the police were given the powers to detain suspects indefinitely without reference to the courts. The decree ‘For the protection of the people and the state’ was used to justify the arrest, imprisonment and often torture of thousands of political opponents, and on 23 March 1933 Hitler presented the Enabling Act to an intimidated Reichstag in order to consolidate Nazi power. The Reichstag passed laws which voted itself out of existence; the communists were barred from voting. The brutality of the Nazis’ bought Hitler four years of a dictatorship. The Nazis managed to use terror with efficient ruthlessness and after the Enabling Act was the destruction of local state government; state governments were dissolved and ordered to reconvene with membership that reflected the recent, by the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service, Jews and political opponents of the Nazis were thrown out of the civil service.? The enabling act gave Hitler dictatorial powers which consequently led to the opening of Dachau, a concentration camp outside Munich, where the Nazi’s political prisoners were held in ‘protective custody’. It also gave Hitler the power to suspend civil rights, removing the free press, freedom of speech and the right to freedom of association. It further gave Hitler the power to harass and attack the KPD and the SPD during the March 1933 elections. Political violence during this stage enabled the Nazis to win a record 43. 5% of the popular vote. This therefore highlights how the Nazi’s used terror as a way of consolidating power, as well as highlighting how the enabling act was one of the main reasons for the Nazis consolidation of power. This is because it allowed Hitler to gain dictatorial power by imprisoning his opponents, rigging elections and suspending civil rights.? Propaganda was another important tool for the consolidation of power. As Goebbels was largely responsible for bringing Hitler to the centre of the political stage, he was rewarded on 13 March 1933, with the position of Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, which gave him total control of the communications media – which was the radio, press, publishing, cinema and the other arts. From this, a new generation of manipulation was brought forth. Once the takeover was complete, the propaganda ministry was split up into several different departments. Anyone, who produced, distributed, broadcasted, published, or sold any form of cinema, media, press, or literature had to first join one of the departments and then follow all rules of the department head. That person was usually Joseph Goebbels. Therefore, without a license to practise their businesses, all artists, writers, publishers, producers, or directors could not work or do any business in their field. Also along with these guidelines, came the prohibition of all Jewish newspapers, radio, and cinema. Certainly, due to the eradication of anti-Nazi publications and media in general, the public must have felt that the general mood of all the media was pro-Nazi. Therefore by disagreeing they would step out of the public mood, and the terror of not conforming due to the total propaganda they were subjected to contributed greatly to the consolidation of power in Nazi Germany. This terror was accentuated further by direct acts of rebellion against the old order, such as the book burning during the spring of 1933. ? Goebbels’ propaganda portrayed the government’s actions as necessary to deal with a national emergency. Potsdam Day, which featured not just Hindenburg and Hitler, but also many generals, was an orchestrated piece of propaganda, aimed at demonstrating the unity and popularity of the government and the acceptance of the Nazis by traditional conservative elements. Following the success of the Nazis and Conservatives in the Reichstag elections, Potsdam Day was propagandized as a ‘day of national unity’. Hitler and Hindenburg appeared before huge crowds together to send out the message of Nazi and conservative unity, which ultimately legitimized Nazi rule. To conclude, it appears that the Nazi’s use of terror and violence played a highly significant role in the consolidation of the party’s power in 1933. Through extreme measures of propaganda and intimidation, the party was able to deal with political opponents to maintain control of people’s social, political and working lives, to the extent where Germany became a country where it was unsafe to do or say anything critical of the government. Although not all propaganda was designed for intimidation, the way Hitler consolidated power in 1933made people fearful of opposing him, granting the Nazis absolute control of national and local government.

It first presents the arguments of those supporting the idea of the effectiveness of logos, product placement and subliminal advertising, the correlation between religion and branding, then the influence of culture and gender divide and lastly, the influence of sense. The first part of the article mainly focuses on the idea that the effectiveness of logos, product placement and subliminal advertising: how those factors can influence people to buy. We are constantly bombarded with subliminal advertising throughout our waking hours. For the most of us, the main source of this is television advertising. It starts with eye-catching logos which could last in our memory maybe like, forever. Then, product placement plays a large part in how easily and effectively subliminal advertising can happen.Besides that, the author of the article highlighted in the article with the opinion expressed by the correlation between religion and branding where shopping is the same way as we practice our religion. Consumers' perception of well-known brands just like their views on the figures associated with religious icons. In short, it can be concluded that this well-known brands can create obsessed within themselves. People want the feel to belong; sense of belonging. The author calls this as religious experience which is related to religious value in impulsive buying behavior among the consumer. The author also discuss about how the culture and gender divide could influence the unplanned purchase of some consumer. Culture may refer to the set of values, ideas, and attitudes that are accepted by a homoge nous group of people and transmitted to the next generation. Culture also determines what is acceptable with product advertising. Culture determines what people wear, eat, reside and travel. So, culture could affect the decision making style for purchase of a product. While genders divide is kind of the difference between women and men, especially as reflected in social, political, intellectual, cultural, or economic attainments or attitudes. The author argued that women value their possessions for emotional and relationship-oriented reasons, whereas men value their possessions for functional and instrumental reasons. As for the influence of the sense on unplanned purchase where the author highlighted the term of sensory shopping, in which the sensory shopping has to do with consumer’s perception.Though necessarily based on incomplete and unverified (or unreliable) information, perception is equated with reality for most practical purposes and guides human behaviour in general . The primary human senses consist of smell, taste, hearing, touch, and sight. So, sensory shopping related to sensation or the physical senses like the smell of freshly baked waffles; transmitted or perceived by the senses and triggering the hungry feeling.I believe the topic being discussed is very arguable, and just I believe how people could amaze himself to found out how they could influenced by many different things that make them purchase. People should learn to resist the urge to buy unnecessary items. I strongly believe that planning is the key to keeping impulse buying under control. You may find after more rational reflection that you don't need the item as much as you thought you did. We should make and believe those impulse purchases as challenging as possible.

How to Write an Annotated Bibliography - Paperell.com

How to Write an Annotated Bibliography How to Write an Annotated Bibliography? Many students get confused by it. However, it is not that difficult. If you have been set an annotated bibliography, you have found yourself in the right place because, in this post, we are going to notify you about everything you should know to make an excellent annotated bibliography! Let’s go through how to write a perfect one. What Is An Annotated Bibliography? An annotated bibliography is like a reference list in a way that it is an organized list of sources used in the preceding text. The primary way in which it differs from a standard bibliography is that each reference needs to be followed by a short annotation of no more than around 200 words in most cases. Take a look at some tips and examples. There are some purposes for which you might   set an annotated bibliography:It can be useful in formulating a thesis on a subject;Providing a literary review on that subject;Illustrating your research;Highlighting significant sources of information available;Describing ideas th at others may find of use.To get some practical help you can use this annotated bibliography writing service,  which employs only the best experienced professional writers.Types Of PapersThere are a few ways how bibliographies can differ from each other. Firstly, we recognize two major categories: informative (or descriptive) and critical (or analytical). The former is similar to an abstract in a way that it describes and provides a summary of the source. Its job is to convey to the reader why the source might be useful, how it is distinctive. It merely depicts the author’s key ideas, arguments, and conclusions without individually analyzing them. The latter type of annotation adds evaluation of what the academic says. You must give an overview of the firm and weak points of their work as well as argue how the author’s judgments can be applied to your research. In most cases, you will be asked to write this type of annotated bibliography.General GuidelinesBefore you ge t started writing an annotated bibliography, pay attention to how it needs to be approached. Planning is critical as with any assignment.Firstly, choose relevant sources that would support your ideas: you will only be able to do this effectively after doing some prior research on the subject. Find out what materials are available to you that can be applied.Secondly, review those sources. Make sure you select a range of them that allow you to provide different perspectives on the topic: for this purpose, you can employ article abstracts. Finally, you can start writing your citations and annotation. Remember: full citation needs to come first, followed by an annotation. This is useful guidance to follow:Purpose of the workSummary of the contentTarget audienceHow relevant it is to the topic examinedSharp and/or weak points of the materialAnything remarkable about the sourceThere are two ways to arrange annotated bibliographies: alphabetically or chronologically. It is best to check with your instructor what they prefer. You can also find some helpful information on this  resource.Different Styling Of PaperThere are several common ways to format citations. Your instructor should have mentioned to you which format they want to see: the three most common ones are APA, MLA, and Chicago style.APAAPA annotated bibliography is commonly used in social science courses. Emphasis is placed on the works creation date – it is often recorded in the visible text, as well as immediately following the author’s name in a bibliography. After that, work title, the city of publication and publisher are mentioned. Refer to the APA manual for further details on how to correctly use this format. If you require help, you can also buy papers in APA style  from a reliable, experienced company.MLAThis citation format is mostly employed in humanities courses. Here it is authorship that is of most importance because sources don’t tend to become outdated as much: author ’s name is mentioned in the real text and comes first in the list at the end. The order is altered with work title following the name, then publisher and finally publication year. More information can be found in the latest MLA manual. For your peace of mind, you can also purchase a research paper in MLA template.ChicagoChicago style annotated bibliography is often found in history courses. It highlights source origins; therefore footnotes and endnotes are widely used to point out where the information originated from. A separate number is assigned to each fact used in the text the correlating note links the source to the book and the bibliography. Check out the CMOS manual to obtain more information.Useful TipsAnnotated bibliography format can differ from class to class, so always be sure to check with your teacher before writing anything. You will usually be instructed unambiguously when your assignment is set. Check out this  useful guide!Use one paragraph per reference While it will generally suffice to include no more than a paragraph for each reference, sometimes, depending on the purpose, you may have to provide an extensive analysis of the source. This is especially the case when you are explicitly asked to assess for bias and criticize sources: your annotation could even span several pages if necessary!Dont stop on one viewpointIt is not difficult to find an example of your annotated bibliography template on the web. So your research should include looking at several examples, paying close attention to what each format requires. As previously mentioned, each subject emphasizes a different aspect of the source. Therefore, when writing a science annotation, you will not only be likely using a different format but also focusing on whether there has been recent research on the subject that would make earlier sources obsolete. This is unlikely to be a common issue in literature because there is more room for discussion and different viewpoints wit h all of them being valid and relevant.Take as a basis the most reliable sourcesHistory finds itself in the middle. If more reliable primary sources are discovered, they can negate prior research and judgments invalidating many of the previously deemed reliable sources. So take great care when looking for your references to ensure you use the generally accepted ones and avoid the obscure unreliable ones.

True Reasons We Love Super Bowl

True Reasons We Love Super Bowl Super Bowl is the most popular show among Americans. In a bit more than a week the whole nation will be glued to the screen to see the game. And there is a number of reasons for that! Loving NFL is a long lasting tradition, so nobody actually asks questions like Why watch Super Bowl? or Why do you like Super Bowl? or (God forbid) What is Super Bowl? However, we decided to bring these wonderful Super Bowl things together to make your week of game anticipation even more exciting. This post is also for Super Bowl haters. You still time to change your mind start loving Super Bowl (because in week its going to be too late!) Bringing Folks Together Okay, maybe there’s a fair amount of other things going on in this world that need more attention. And yes, it would be nice if we saw the same passion and fervor for civil rights and personal liberties these days. But at least this magical game, when the best of the best go head to head and the commenters are flipping out, brings people together in sports bars and living rooms across the land. Chanting, cheering, stumbling around, and pretty much going quasi-insane for a few hours. It’s good fun. And listen, Super Bowl parties run the whole gauntlet from two dudes in their boxers in their dorm room eating Cheetos from the vending machine on the first floor†¦to blockbuster block parties and after-parties that literally anger the gods. It proves that whether you want it or not football is a part of our national heritage†¦a part of the DNA, to be more precise. Special Food Chips and dips, wings and BBQ feasts, casseroles galore Super Bowl food comes in many different nuances of class and sophistication. There’s your cheap and dirty munchies finished off with piss beer and then all the more â€Å"adult† parties where they take some time to make decent grub: gourmet sandwiches, tiny sirloin burgers, high-brow quesadillas, etc. If you get invited to one of these parties start counting your blessings! The food rocks no matter what though. And, while the game’s going it doesn’t matter if it’s the most fattening food in the known galaxy. Halftime Commercials Rule Corporations pull out all the stops, it’s madness! Throughout the rest of the year most commercials are like Super Villain fingernails carving words into chalk boards. Then suddenly, this one spellbinding game comes around and almost all the commercials are either super-deep thinker-pieces, or funny as hell. According to superbowl-commercials.org (yep, there’s a website for everything), here are a couple big hits from 2014: NSA – Smile, We Know When You’re Not (youtube.com/watch?v=NcAEjvT-Ri8#t=97) A commercial like this can only happen during a Super Bowl. AXE – Make Love, Not War (youtube.com/watch?v=UIecNEIaPao) It makes sense during the Super Bowl, everything does. Oh man, then you’ve got the halftime show, which, let’s be honest, is pretty hit or miss. Some years it’s dull or you’re laughing all over the place. But some years, wow, the show knocks your socks off and typically delivers some controversy to boot! In case you’re wondering, the Billboard list of the Best Half-Time shows claims these are the top 3 so far: Prince, in 2007: â€Å"But the explosive coda was Purple Rain, which had the stadium full of testosterone-pumped football fanatics waving their arms and howling in falsetto.† U2, in 2002: This was the mega-heart-wrenching tribute to 9/11 set when the wound was still very deep and fresh for the nation. Madonna, 2012: This got some pretty mixed reviews. But that’s the beauty of it, there are winners and losers in every aspect of the game, even in terms of entertainment. Rivalries Are Fun True, it’s not so cool when these rivalries get out of hand and people riot after football games. But to be honest, sports rivalries are much safer than wars, battles, revolutions, civil upheaval, geopolitical struggles, and all the other sorts of violent ways people create to release some steam. The Super Bowl let’s people who love the game really beat up a few pillows, scream at TVs, throw controllers, pull out a little hair, tear a jersey or two, and stomp around like they’ve got the last of their savings account riding on the game. Great Success Stories We follow NFL for the whole year. We know the players and all about them what coffee they drink, how their girlfriends look like and their football career, of course. We know the strengths and weaknesses of each team. And one day here they are on the field. The struggle begins. Each move counts. Each moment can be decisive. One big winning or a big failure. Fans rage. Thats the atmosphere where the legends are born. These stories are remembered and passed from generation to generation. These stories inspire. So, each Super Bowl is legendary and cant be missed for anything on earth. And that’s why we love the Super Bowl! Are there any reasons you like Super Bowl that we didnt mention! Agree or disagree with us in the comments!

Choose and discuss two images of Jesus from the New Testament. What is Essay

Choose and discuss two images of Jesus from the New Testament. What is their relevance today - Essay Example From the dictionary definition a shepherd is someone who looks after the herd of sheep by guarding and tending them. A shepherd is someone tasked to lead the herd of sheep in the safest and abundant place. It is necessary for the herd of sheep to be tended in the green pasture with a fresh source of water flowing in abundance. In this way, the herd of sheep will survive and they are given all the essentials they need. The psalm of David in chapter 23 describes God as shepherd full of righteousness. God is revealed by David as a good Shepherd, and since Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16), it is implied that the Son and the Father have the same characteristics and they are working together for one common good and that is salvation of the humanity from eternal condemnation (Matthew 1: 18-21). In John 10:14, Jesus said he is a good shepherd and part of being such is to know his people and his people to him. He sacrificed his life for the humanity to bring salvation to all. Jesus has great compassion for the people of God. Such compassion can be clearly defined by the great love Jesus is willing to give for the humanity. He gave up his life for the humanity and such is the great manifestation of his universal and unconditional love. The image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd depicts the meaning of a good servant and a leader. Being a good servant or a leader therefore requires following Jesus as far as biblical principles are deemed important. In fact, being a Christian means following Jesus whatever the cost may be. A Christian minister can be considered a shepherd because of the responsibility to care for and guide a group of people in the ministry. Jesus as the Good Shepherd is therefore a remarkable model of every Christian minister who is responsible to lead the beloved people of God. The herd of sheep is the people of God who need spiritual leader to give them guidance, protection and

Art and Craft higher education in pakistan Literature review - 1

Art and Craft higher education in pakistan - Literature review Example Additionally, advancements in arts and crafts field have variations in different parts of the world. This can be attributed to the fact that art and craft activities are heavily dependent on cultural practices in a given area. According to Lees-Maffei and Sandino, â€Å"the principles that define the differences and relations between design, art and craft are subject to historical change and vary regionally and culturally† (2004, p.1). However, formal settings may incorporate different aspects of art and craft from different regions. This is in relation to some of the common arts such as music and dance. There have been some major developments in art and craft and increased applications to solve different issues either directly related or indirect. To get a clear picture of these developments it is more appropriate to focus on one particular area or country with rich applications of art and craft such as Pakistan. Since the establishment of Pakistan as a republic in 1947, there have been many transformations and developments in the art and craft field. For example, the first five-year plan for education focused on improving creativity through art and craft (Perveen, 2011, p. 3). This prompted the government to employ art and craft professionals to ensure proper learning. However, Perveen’s article mainly focuses on primary level art and craft rather than its developments at higher education level. Nevertheless, it has contributed in evaluating the development and incorporation of art and craft in higher education by the Pakistan government. Additionally, there was adoption of a conceptual and physical platform by various institutions in a bid to support modern arts. According to Tarar major changes were experienced in 1950s following an upgrade of the Mayo School of Arts into the National College of Arts (2008, p.1). This increased awareness and focus on art and craft as a subject and course in the Pakistan education

Management Concept Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Management Concept - Essay Example The fact is, with onset of new era of globalisation, the workforce is increasingly varied and faces problems due to geographical constraints, multilingual offices, changing organisational cultures and shifting domains as seen in case of IT organisations. The need of the hour is to develop a strategy to project a unified organisational culture which defines the whole character of the organisation and fosters an attitude of comradeship across employees, verticals, units and businesses thus creating a potential for organic and inorganic organisational growth. The new model on motivation that combines tenets of neuroscience, biology and evolutionary psychology points towards four basic needs (or drives) that guide motivation levels in people. (Nohria Groysberg & Lee 2008) These four drives, namely, drive to acquire, bond, comprehend and defend underlies every thought and action of employees and it is only by satiating these drives that an organisation can boost employee morale, enhance c reativity and extract higher productivity which leads to wholesome growth. The article emphasises on the need to focus on all four tangents for the desired results as there is tendency among Managers to overlook one or all aspects of these drives with disastrous consequences in terms of attrition percentages evoking high levels of loss n terms f experienced resources and business accordingly. The tunnel vision of handful of managers can have grievous consequences according by squelching creativity and life out of the organisation and promoting a stagnant organisational culture.(Amabile 1998) The root cause of loss of creative inputs are attributed to various factors that affect the three pillars of creativity in resources which include expertise, creative thinking skills and motivation. Thus from the ideas of these researches it is imperative to develop a theory that would promote the motivation levels and help in retaining the creativity of the employees. The organisational culture reflects the degree of interrelationship between the employees and the set of values and ideals that join them. Organizations with clearly codified and enforced cultures enjoy great employee and customer loyalty, in large part because they are effective in either altering ineffective behaviours or disengaging from values-challenged employees in a timely manner. ( Hessket Sasser and Wheeler 2008) Thus it is imperative that there is a positive culture that facilitates individual and organisational growth. The company can begin by promoting a clear, well organized mission statement which reflects the values and ideals stands up for and distinguishes it from its peers by reflecting for what it stands against. (Talbot 2003) The mission statement is important as it differentiates the company and lays down a clear line of ethics to be followed according to the organizations core values. The â€Å"IBMer† values that are instilled in every employee of IBM remind them of the core valu es of the organisation and its dedication to excellence in balancing personal and organisational goals. IBM markets itself as one of the best places to work due to the fact that it believes every employee is â€Å"special† and this is also propagated in its recruitment ad campaigns under the tag-â€Å"What makes you special?† Thus the company promotes a healthy image and strong organisation culture of mutual respect and camaraderie. The employees are given proper induction

Hamlet-identity Crisis Essay -- essays research papers

Shakespeare’s Hamlet is arguably one of the best plays known to English literature. It presents the protagonist, Hamlet, and his increasingly complex path through self discovery. His character is of an abnormally complex nature, the likes of which not often found in plays, and many different theses have been put forward about Hamlet's dynamic disposition. One such thesis is that Hamlet is a young man with an identity crisis living in a world of conflicting values. An identity crisis can be defined as 'a psychosocial state or condition of disorientation and role confusion occurring especially in adolescents as a result of conflicting internal and external experiences, pressures, and expectations and often producing acute anxiety.' (www.dictionary.com) It was apparent that Hamlet did indeed have an identity crisis because of his conflicting internal and external experiences and the pressures and expectations from those in the Royal Court of Denmark. He endures conflicting internal and external experiences such as the ghost of his father requesting him to exact revenge on Claudius and in doing so contradict all of the morals he has formed. Pressures to accept the dubious marriage of his mother to his uncle, pressure to accept Claudius as the new king and expectations from the court to be emotionally strong in spite of his father's demise and from the ghost of his father to avenge his death by killing Claudius all challenge Hamlet's strength of se lf. His anxiety is caused as a result of these external pressures. Hamlet lives in a country of different worlds. At the time, Denmark was in a state of transition between three metaphysical worlds; the heroic world, where a man's honour was foremost, killing was not accepted but expected, might was power, the Machiavellian world, an amoral world where politics and mind games were employed ruthlessly, the ends justified the means, and the Christian world of love and forgiveness. Hamlet was a Christian living in a dying Heroic world which was succumbing to the Machiavellian world. Hamlet's father, King Hamlet, belonged to the heroic world, and so for him revenge was of the utmost importance, shown by the fact that "but two months" (1:2, 136) after his death he returned to instruct Hamlet to avenge his murder. Hamlet's disgust at his mother's marriage to his uncle before "the salt of most unrighteous tea... ...ing madness to sanity are reminiscent of a bi-polar disorder such as manic depression. It is possible that Hamlet put on his antic disposition to allow himself freedom from the usual constraints and etiquette of the court so that he could use different means to discover Claudius' guilt without being discovered himself. Or his feigned madness may have been a reaction to the stress of his predicament, because in doing so he frees himself from having to make decisions on courses of action and he effectively becomes a spectator in the running of his own life. Hamlet is a man with an identity crisis because of the conflicting emotions he is feeling and expectations being thrust upon him. His eventual plunge into a state of insanity was a direct consequence of stress. The stress between worlds destroyed his moral base, the actions of his mother and his consequential treatment of Ophelia left him with no 'north point' to follow and his constant changing of moods either caused his crisis or were as a result of losing his way. Hamlet to this day remains a complex character in the centre of perhaps the finest play in the history of the English language.
